Intern Adventures: Peninsula de Troia

With all the busyness and crowds of Lisbon, it can be easy to forget how easily accessible so much beautiful nature and scenery is from the capital. One of these is the magnificent Peninsula de Troia, a stunning 13km stretch of pristine sands and crystal clear waters.

In Portugal, Troia has a reputation for expensive and exclusive tourism, with lots of nestled away luxury resorts and apartments. However for the average tourist it is still a fantastic trip with so much to discover on this stretch of land. For those who golf there is the renowned Troia Golf, which is considered one of Portugal’s finest, and for the history enthusiast there are remains from the Roman era fishing village of Cetobriga.

Troia is one of the further day trips from Lisbon but it is still relatively easy. We had to first take a train to Setubal before transferring on to a ferry. Although the whole trip is definitely part of the fun of the day!

If you take the people ferry as opposed to the car ferry you will get dropped at the north side of the Peninsula, immediately greeted by a beach and harbour with various small restaurants. It is also possible to walk on to the car ferry however you will have to walk in order to reach a beach.

I would definitely recommend a trip to Troia for anyone looking to escape the city and enjoy some truly scenic views and idyllic restaurants.
